BPI Story
The beginning was humble
The BPI Sale grew out of the Western Maryland Forage Only Test sale. A silent auction was held after the test and bucks from the top ten finalists were offered. Many great test bucks that produced excellent stock were sold that way. These included "AFK Harvester" who went on to produce a WMD Finalist himself and to be the grand sire through his daughters to many of the top ten all time highest tested ADG bucks in the breed.
The goats were often in very poor condition after the test. They were never cleaned up prior to the sale and usually were guant looking. Some doelings were offered but the event was somewhat unimpressive. To improve the sale and highlight the tested genetics, John Smith of VA and others produced a sale event to offer test bucks and related does in VA for one year. That year 15% of the goats had died at the test and the remaining bucks were generally in very poor condition. There were nice does offered and the event spawned the first Bluegrass Performance Invitational the next year which was organized by Jarred and Deirdre Dennison.
The Dennisons did a great job of establishing the sale and some extremely high quality goats have been offered and high prices paid at the BPI. The sale is well run and always has a positive atmosphere as the consignors share a common goal, the utilization of independent performance testing to improve their herds.
In 2017, Jarred and Deirdre handed over the reins of the BPI to four fellow Performance Test consignors. Pat Larr, Wes and Bev Pinneo, PJ Murphy and Angie and Jim Loos. After a successful run, PJ Murphy stepped away to spend more time close to home with his family. His position was filled by Tyler and Sydney Glasson in 2024, as well as former host Jarred Dennison coming back on board as an organizer. All these host farms have produced successful performance tested stock for many years and are intent on continuing the BPI with a continued focus on Performance.

Angie Loos & Bev Pinneo
Jim and Angie Loos of Red Ranch Goats in Liberty, IL have helped organize the BPI since 2017. Red Ranch Goats began in 2004 when longtime successful cattle and grain farmer Jim Loos became interested in raising meat goats. The adventure began with 15 Boer does and gradually shifted to Kikos. The Loos herd has grown to well over 100 hd of performance based production driven Kiko meat goats. Jim and Angie have participated in performance testing since 2013. Tyler & Sydney Glasson
Since 2014, Tyler and Sydney Glasson of Glasson Kikos in Irvine, KY have set a goal to raise high quality, low input Kikos that are healthy and genetically sound. With this goal in mind, they sought after performance tested genetics to build their herd. Their management practice focuses heavily on rotational grazing with minimal supplementation. As meat goat breeders they want, fast growing kids that get to market as efficient as possible with little input, so performance is critical. Glasson Kikos began performance testing in 2017. In 2020, they had a buck finish #7 for ADG at the WVU Buck Test. This buck later sired the #4 Overall/ #6 FEC buck in 2022 WVU Buck Test, they also had the
#9 ADG, and #14 REA bucks. Most recently, Glasson Kikos had the #10 Overall/ #8 FEC buck in the Southeastern Buck Performance Test. Each test has pushed Glasson Kikos to keep moving towards their original goal of a high quality, low input animal.
Glasson Kikos looks forward to the Bluegrass Performance Invitational and the great animals that will be showcased!

PJ Murphy & Family
(former Organizer)
PJ Murphy of PJM goats in Pitsttown, NJ was a BPI organizer from 2017-2023.
His herd is production oriented, performance driven, and has had a tremendous impact on the
performance community.
He had great success at the MD and
WV Buck Tests.
A PJM buck still holds the record ADG
for the Kiko breed.
The current organizers would like to express their gratitude for all he did for the BPI, including using his extensive knowledge of livestock and the Kiko breed to narrate the sale for years.
