ABOUT the BPI

Bluegrass Performance Invitational

The BPI BEGINNINGS WERE HUMBLE

The BPI Sale grew out of the Western Maryland Forage Only Test sale. A silent auction was held after the test and bucks from the top ten finalists were offered. Many great test bucks that produced excellent stock were sold that way. These included "AFK Harvester" who went on to produce a WMD Finalist himself and to be the grand sire through his daughters to many of the top ten all time highest tested ADG bucks in the breed.
The goats were often in very poor condition after the test. They were never cleaned up prior to the sale and usually were guant looking. Some doelings were offered but the event was somewhat unimpressive. To improve the sale and highlight the tested genetics, John Smith of VA and others produced a sale event to offer test bucks and related does in VA for one year. That year 15% of the goats had died at the test and the remaining bucks were generally in very poor condition. The sale seen nice does offered and the event spawned the first Bluegrass Performance Invitational the next year which was organized by Jarred and Deirdre Dennison.
The Dennisons did a great job of establishing the sale and some extremely high quality goats have been offered and high prices paid at the BPI. The sale was well run and always has a positive atmosphere as the consignors share the common experience of enduring the tests with their goats.
In 2017, Jarred and Deirdre handed over the reins of the BPI to four fellow Performance Test consignors. Pat Larr, Wes and Bev Pinneo, PJ Murphy and Angie and Jim Loos. All these host farms have produced successful performance tested stock for many years and are intent on continuing the BPI with a continued focus on Performance.
